Since his retirement from the United States Air Force, Ferrara is frequently sought as a subject matter expert pertaining to firefighter health and safety. His compelling insights regarding toxic exposure among veterans and military firefighters gained national attention through The National Desk’s award-winning investigative program, “Spotlight on America,” and personal interviews with renowned environmental advocate Erin Brockovich.

Ferrara presently holds leadership positions on various boards and committees focused on health and safety, military exposure to toxic chemicals, and cancer research and education.

AFSO21Advisers to Fire Service Organizations for the 21st Century, was established by Kevin Ferrara. Throughout his career, Kevin observed numerous decisions within fire and emergency services remained tethered to antiquated methodologies. Frustrated that the profession he remains passionate about was not advancing to keep pace with technology and civilian business practices, as a senior fire officer in the United States Air Force, Kevin identified critical necessities for enhanced leadership and training designed to align these services with the requirements of the 21st century. Consequently, following his retirement from the military, Kevin founded AFSO21 LLC. Providing advisory support, Kevin and AFSO21 continue to be influential in the creation and revisions of numerous National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) manuals, legislative efforts to increase emergency responder health and safety, and contributions to cancer research and education boards.  So, now you know what / who AFSO21 is, and to use a catchphrase Kevin loves to use from one of his favorite childhood cartoons, G.I.
